Network upfronts are just over a month away, and the five broadcast networks are clearing their schedules of underperforming shows to make way for untested new ones that have all the promise in the world.
In the ad-based television model, ratings are still the primary factor that determines a show's success — even as people stop watching TV on actual TVs. When shows don't perform, networks have to give advertisers free make-up time, losing money in the process. Network can't justify keeping low-rated shows around.
Here are the shows that have been renewed and canceled so far, as well as TheWrap‘s predictions of which ones are likely to return, based on their ratings. We think the rest are on the bubble and could go either way – and here's why.
