BBC America to Co-Produce Ambitious New Sci-fi Series 'Atlantis'

Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps' 'Merlin' also aired on BBC America
BBC America announced today that it will co-produce the new fantasy drama "Atlantis," created by Howard Overman ("Misfits"), Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps (both of "Merlin"). The series will join the fall 2013 lineup as part of the network's "Supernatural Saturday" programming block.
"Atlantis" is set in a time of legendary heroes and mythical creatures and will reimagine the always-popular sci-fi fodder of Greek mythology for a new generation. The story follows Jason as he arrives in the fantastical underwater city of Atlantis and begins an amazing adventure.
The cast includes Mark Addy ("Game of Thrones"), Jemima Rooper ("One Man, Two Guvnors," "Hex"), Juliet Stevenson ("The Hour"), Sarah Parish ("Hatfields & McCoys"), Robert Emms ("War Horse"), Aiysha Hart ("About Time") and Jack Donnelly ("Dancing On The Edge").
According to Julian Murphy, creator and executive producer, "This ambitious new series will see us push production values to the limit as we endeavor to bring the epic world of 'Atlantis' to life. By combining state-of-the-art technology with timeless filmmaking techniques, we want every episode to have the star quality of a Hollywood movie."
"Atlantis" is an Urban Myth Films production for BBC Cymru Wales co-produced with BBC America. The series is currently filming in Wales and Morocco. Thirteen hour-long episodes have been ordered for Fall 2013.
