Once Upon a Time is bringing back Robin Hood in season 3, but Sean Maguire will take over from Tom Ellis in the role.
In Once Upon a Time season 2, Tom Ellis appeared as Robin Hood in the episode “Lacey,” where we saw Belle help the thief escape Rumpelstiltskin’s home, and then save him from Rumpel a second time when she learned he was trying to save his pregnant wife.
The character is set to return in season 3, but due to Ellis not being available, the role has been re-cast.
TV Line reports that British actor Sean Maguire will be picking up the bow and arrow for a recurring arc which the writers have been working on for a long time.
Maguire has appeared in a number of British and American television series, including the Comedy Central show Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire. The actor is probably best known for his role as Leonidas inMeet the Spartans.
Robin Hood has not yet been seen in Storybrooke, so fans are speculating that he is one of the characters still in fairytale land.
This would mean that his path would likely cross with Neal (Michael Raymond James), Mulan (Jamie Chung) and Aurora (Sarah Bolger)’s in season 3.
Once Upon a Time season 3 premieres Sunday, September 29 at 8/7c on ABC.
