‘Damien’ series to be shot in Toronto

TORONTO — Call it a good omen for Toronto’s film and television production industry.

The new TV series Damien will be filmed in Toronto early this year with British actor Bradley James (Merlin) in the titular role.

The drama focuses on Damien Thorn — the mysterious child from 1976’s The Omen — who has grown up seemingly unaware that he is possessed by satanic forces.

The adult Damien is described as “a dark, romantic anti-hero.”

Global News

James, 31, played Arthur Pendragon on five seasons of Merlin and recently appeared in an episode of Homeland.

Additional casting details have not been announced.

Among the show’s executive producers is Glen Mazzara (Walking Dead).

Six episodes will be produced for U.S. cable channel Lifetime. The first will be directed by Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth).

The Omen (with Harvey Stephens as Damien) grossed more than $60 million in the U.S. and Canada and spawned two sequels (starring Jonathan Scott-Taylor and Sam Neill as Damien respectively), a pair of TV movies and a 2006 remake (with Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick as Damien).

Toronto is already home to TV series Beauty and the Beast, Defiance, The Expanse, Hannibal, Hemlock Grove, Reign and The Strain. NBC will also shoot Heroes Reborn in the city this year.
