According to Deadline, 14-year-old Asa Butterfield has been offered the title role in the big-screen version of Orson Scott Card's classic 1985 novel.
Who is Butterfield? He's a British actor who has appeared in movies such as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, but is about to become much better known as the title character in Hugo, director Martin Scorsese's 3-D period fantasy.
Hugo opens six days from now, on Nov. 23, so you'll have a chance to take a good, long look at the young man who will almost certainly play one of sci-fi's most beloved characters of the past 30 years. Once Butterfield's deal is official, we're sure that more casting announcements will be on the way.
