June 3, 2015 - Eoin Macken to star with Games of Thrones Natalie Dormerin The Forest

Irish actor Eoin Macken has confirmed that he will be playing a role in The Forest, the upcoming thriller film starring Natalie Dormer of Game of Thrones fame.
Speaking on The Nicky Byrne Show with Jenny Greene on RTÉ 2fm, the star of US medical drama The Night Shift didn't offer any details other than saying that he is due to travel to Serbia in two weeks to film the project.
Macken also confirmed that the paperback edition of his novel, Kingdom of Scars, released in October 2014, will be released tomorrow (June 4), joking that he plans on going "into the shop and I'm going to buy it and hope that somebody notices me".
The Forest is set in the Aokigahara Forest in Japan, an infamous spot for suicides, and is scheduled for release in the United States on January 8, 2016.
The Night Shift continues on Thursday on RTÉ 2.

June 3, 2015 -RTE Review of Eoin Macken in The Night Shift

On the Box - Weekly TV Review

Eoin Macken and Freddy Rodriguez in The Night Shift

This week, John Byrne looks at a hit US medical drama starring Dubliner Eoin Macken, a quirky thriller featuring Matt Dillon, crazy country soap Nashville, and the ultimate tribute to Bill O'Herlihy.
Reviewed:  The Night Shift (Thursdays, RTÉ2); Wayward Pines (Thursdays, Fox); Nashville (Wednesday, E4); The Late Late Show (Fridays, RTÉ One)
Medical dramas have always been a good friend of TV. The Dr Kildare films of 1930s and '40s spawned a hugely popular 1960s' show of the same name, which turned Richard Chamberlain into one of the world's first global TV stars. Others such as the BBC's Dr Finlay's Casebook, Marcus Welby, MD, Australia's A Country Practice, and of course more recent successes such as ER and Grey's Anatomy, and our own The Clinic have followed in due course.
But for every Grey's Anatomy there are loads of US medical dramas that don't last long, such as Off the Map(Shonda Rhimes' only flop so far), Emily Owens MD, Three Rivers and The Mob Doctor, all of which surfaced briefly in recent years.
And while Grey's Anatomy is chasing ER's record of 15 seasons and 331 episodes, it's highly unlikely that it will last beyond its next, 12th, season, as it's been on life support in recent years. The sudden, recent departure of Patrick Dempsey could well finish it off.
One of the shows that has come in the wake of Grey's Anatomy is The Night Shift (Thursdays, RTÉ2). Already two seasons in, and renewed for a third, this NBC series is nothing if not a survivor. Dubliner Eoin Macken, who's also enjoyed a modelling career, plays the lead role of TC Callahan, a strong-willed doctor working the nights shift at the San Antonio Medical Center.

Last Thursday's opening episode set the scene, and while it was hardly ground-breaking it was very watchable. The cast is strong, so if the writing becomes a little more imaginative, it could make for riveting TV. My missus lapped it up, which is always a good sign.
As well as Macken's rebel with a stethoscope, there's Jordan Alexander (Jill Flint, Royal Pains and The Good Wife), Callahan's former girlfriend, who has just been promoted to night shift leader, and has her work cut out dealing with a feisty crew of hardened medics.
Meanwhile, Callahan is constantly battling the money-conscious hospital admin head, Dr Michael Ragosa (Freddy Rodriguez, Six Feet Under and Ugly Betty), and in the pilot episode they literally trade punches, while agreeing to move on. Well, until the next time a child with a life-threatening condition and no health insurance turns up at the hospital.
Jordan Alexanader sets herself up to Ragosa as the one person who might tame Callahan, so you can envision how that mini-drama's roughly going to play out, especially as Callahan is secretly dating Landry de la Cruz, the night shift psychologist.
The Night Shift is solid if unspectacular, but for Eoin Macken it has to be a welcome opportunity to establish himself at the top table in this fiercely competitive and unforgiving industry. Let's hope he can build on it, and the writers give his character a chance to develop.
Another recent arrival from across the Atlantic is Wayward Pines (Thursdays, Fox), which is about as radically different to The Night Shift as TV gets. Based on the series of novels of the same name, it's like a latterday Twin Peaks or something that would appeal to Lost fans still searching for a quirky fix.

musketeers

Starting April with some S2 news

A lot of you have been asking for some news on when Series 2 would be filmed, when it is coming out or whether we’ll even have a Series 2.

You can all breathe because yes, we are getting a Series 2. It was confirmed back in February by the BBC and reconfirmed for all your worrying fans last Sunday:

musketeers

When the series is filming, it seems possible that it will start in the next few days so you’ll just have to keep checking around for news or mysterious tweets from the cast and crew. Maybe they’ll be nice and post some pictures?

In other (wooooo!) news:

Irish actor Eoin Macken has joined the cast of The Musketeers Series Two, becoming the first new cast member, reuniting with his Merlin co-star, Santiago Cabrera.

macken__121027013306

While his character is being kept under wraps as filming is not yet underway, his role has been described as ‘the handsomest-bodied man in all of England.’ (Duke of Buckingham?!)

It is uncertain what episode Eoin’s character will first be featured and there is no word if the character will recur in any other episodes, but any news is good news right!

We may have joked a few weeks ago about Richard Armitage being involved with the show, but it is looking very likely the Hobbit star will join along with Nico Mirallegro (Skins, The Village) and Lucy Griffiths (Robin Hood, True Blood) as guest-stars in the next series.

April 8, 2014 - Deadline - new The Night Shift with military roots (EOIN MACKEN)

NBC Press Day: Medical Drama ‘Night Shift’ Consciously Blue-Collar With Military Roots

NBC‘s Night Shift exec producer Jeffnightshsift Judah insists he loves the idea of his big ensemble medical drama running on the broadcast network in the summer. “There are not as many shows on the networks, it may not get lost as much, maybe get a chance to be seen by more people — we love it.” he told reporters at NBC Press Day.
NBC series The Night Shift, about the men and women who work graveyard at San Antonio Memorial, got an 8-episode order  as part of a four-show deal between NBC and Sony TV last May that included pickups of The Blacklist(with guaranteed Monday 10 PM slot),Welcome To The Family and The Night Shift, and a renewal of Community. The Night Shiftpilot tested very well, with Irish actor Eoin Macken in the lead, as adrenaline junkie T.C. Callahan who, after a grueling tour of duty in the Middle East, now works in the ER.  Creators Gabe Sachs and Judah executive produce with Pierre Morel.
Judah has a pal who’s an ER doctor in Atlanta who, he said, regales him with stories about his work that are “heartbreaking” and “funny,” about people who are often drunk, or  high, and about the “adrenalin junkies”  who work in the ER on the night shift. “It gives our show more of a blue-collar feel,” he said.
Night Shift is set in San Antonio, rather than a major market, which we learned during the Boston Marathon bombing a year ago may have several hospitals that can handle the highest level medical emergencies. This series hospital ER, Judah said, serves 22 counties and must often get medical care to someone via helicopter. “We wanted to bring the ‘golden hour’ to the patients — to bring the military aspect of the show,” he said.

July 23, 2014 - FreePress - Eoin Macken (MERLIN'S GWAINE) has been cast in "The Wedding Invitation" Movie

THE WEDDING INVITATION SNAGS NBC’S THE NIGHT SHIFT’S EOIN MACKEN July 23,2014 700 241 StumbleUpon4 453 The female-driven comedy The Wedding Invitation, which begins production in Los Angeles in September, has attached Irish star Eoin Macken. 123 “Eoin Macken is our next George Clooney. He jumps through the screen out at you,” says writer-director Rainy Kerwin. Macken amassed a huge following while on the hit BBC series Merlin and currently plays Dr. T.C. Callahan in NBC’s The Night Shift, which was just picked up for a second season. But his talents are many. “Eoin is more than just an actor,” Kerwin says. “Eoin gets the independent film scene.” He’s a writer, director, producer and cinematographer whose films have been screened in numerous festivals. "I'm really excited to be working on a project that champions women," Macken says. "It's a great script and I'm looking forward to working with Rainy and this talented crew." In The Wedding Invitation, Eoin (pronounced Owen) will be surrounded be a sea of women. Why is that? Because Kerwin and her producing partner Narmar Hanna are looking to change the landscape for women working in Hollywood. They will shoot the film with an entirely female crew. Their production company, It’s Raining Films, seeks to entertain, inspire and empower women. And it goes beyond the big screen. It’s Raining Films will donate 5% of the profits from the film to 10 women’s charities and organizations, including Glam-a-thon, Glaad, Women In Film, and Women Empowered. Slated for a 2015 release, The Wedding Invitation is already generating a lot of buzz. The producers have been written up in Gorilla Film Magazine, Max It Magazine and Indie Reign Magazine, and were interviewed on The Cutting Room Floor podcast as well as in Jennifer Dean's upcoming documentary about female filmmakers. Kerwin, Hanna and co-producer Sage Scroope plan to roll out the film with a massive social media campaign. “It’s our strength,” Hanna says. “We funded this film through social media and we plan on marketing it through social media.” And with an abundant target audience of women in their 20’s, 30’s & 40’s, these lady producers are confident that The Wedding Invitation will do big numbers. The beautiful and hilarious Chasty Ballesteros (The Newsroom, Think Like a Man Too) has been cast in the role of Nectar. Other actors attached to this ensemble comedy include Nick George (Saving Lincoln) and Alex Sanborn (Love in the Time of Monsters). And Kerwin herself is attached as the smartass best friend. “We’re still casting for our Female Lead,” says Hanna. “We really want somebody who can be a team player, who’s funny, and who wants to inspire women. Luckily we’ve already found that in Eoin. He gets it.” For more information on The Wedding Invitation, visit ItsRainingFilms.com. @WeddingInvMovie www.facebook.com/theweddinginvitationmovie Promo that raised the budget for the film: https://vimeo.com/96463118 865 views 700 241 4 StumbleUpon 453 0 PDF Print Email Report - See more at: http://www.free-press-release.com/news-the-wedding-invitation-snags-nbc-s-the-night-shift-s-eoin-macken-1406161133.html#sthash.xQwgzSOv.dpuf
