December 4, 2012 - Hyable - ‘Merlin’ stars Bradley James, Katie McGrath and Colin Morgan tease the end, reflect on the ‘epic journey

‘Merlin’ stars Bradley James, Katie McGrath and Colin Morgan tease the end, reflect on the ‘epic journey’

The Merlin stars have been doing the press rounds, and in this latest batch, Colin Morgan, Katie McGrath and Bradley James get a bit looser with their answers.

Speaking to CliqueClack, James at first refuses to give anything away, but McGrath is more open about the end of the series, saying that, “The last two episodes answered all the questions that the series posed.” Well, everyone, let’s start listing them!
McGrath also talks about how important the show has been for developing her as an actress, saying, “I hadn’t done much else [before Merlin] and I hadn’t gone to drama school, so I guess I learned everything on it. I wouldn’t be who I am and where I am without it, so I can’t underestimate how much I owe the show.”
James names “The Herald of the New Age” as his favourite episode, while McGrath’s favourite was “Lancelot DuLac,” which she calls a “lovely story and very complete, and it had a real sense of sort of, I guess magic and sort of a fairytale feeling to it.”
She also reveals a fun tidbit about shooting that scene where Lancelot (Santiago Cabrera) walks out of the lake naked, saying, “Santiago wasn’t the only one topless in that scene. The entire crew behind the camera decided pretty much to take their tops off, so it was just me wearing, you know? So it wasn’t just the lovely Santiago but it was like 55 members of the crew all standing in the lake topless.”
In an interview with SciFi Talk, McGrath discusses whether the final episodes will follow the legends. She says, “I think so. I think this is the series (season) that we’re starting to tell the legend as we know it.” But there are still surprises ahead, because while, “this season is kind of the closest to it, having said all that, there’s so much going on that you still don’t miss out on all the bits about Merlin, that it will give you the legend but not in the way that you expect.”
James talks about the relationship between Merlin and Arthur, saying, “It’s been great to kind of work on that relationship because it’s such a huge part of the show. It’s something that I think that fans have connected to, that relationship. Something that we are always aware of in the beginning of something we needed to get right.” And by the series’ end, “I think we possibly achieved that.”
Colin Morgan reflects back on creating the show, and says that, “it’s been an epic journey. I’ve gone on the adventures that the characters have gone on themselves from their humble beginnings to becoming more powerful along the way. We finished on a high on the series and it feels like it’s the right time.”
Merlin concludes on December 29. Are you as ready for the show to be over as the actors seem to be?
