Taron Egerton, Colin Morgan, Kit Harington and Alexandra Roach, who will be joining Alicia Vikander in a big screen adaptation of Vera Brittain’s memoir Testament Of Youth.
I broke news of Alicia’s casting as Vera in December. Now, director James Kent has been assembling the young men who were to become part of World War I’s lost generation.
Egerton, who just finished making Matthew Vaughn’s The Secret Service, will portray Vera’s beloved brother, Edward.
Morgan will portray Victor Richardson, a schoolmate of Edward’s who behaved gallantly towards Vera when so many of her friends were killed.
Kit Harington, of Games Of Thrones fame, will play Vera’s fiancé, Roland Leighton.Roach, meanwhile, has been cast as Vera’s friend, Winifred Holtby.
The movie, from Heyday and BBC Films, starts shooting from the middle of March on locations in Yorkshire, London and Oxford.
The Allied military hospital at Etaples, Northern France, will be recreated on a large estate in Sheffield.
Johnny Flynn, who will portray Queen drummer and songwriter Roger Taylor in Mercury, the film about Queen’s flamboyant lead singer. Director Dexter Fletcher and producers Taylor, Brian May and Graham King have already chosen Ben Whishaw to play Freddie Mercury. The film charts Queen’s formation and follows them all the way to their legendary gig at Live Aid in 1985.
Flynn, who sings and plays guitar with his band Sussex Wit, also appears opposite Anne Hathaway in the film Song One. He effectively stole the movie right from under her — Flynn’s a screen natural and he’s going to become a major name in movies.
