Dennis Haysbert To Star In BBC One’s DPP Drama ‘Undercover’

In what is a major casting coup, 24 and The Unit star Dennis Haysbert has been tapped for a starring role in Undercover, BBC One’s six part drama series from Silk scribe Peter Moffatt which tells the story of the first black Director of Public Prosecutions.
Undercover follows Maya, the first black Director Of Public Prosecutions. Just as she is about to take up the post and her life comes under intense public scrutiny, she learns that that her husband Nick has been lying to her for years. Twenty years ago Nick was a fearless and dedicated undercover officer, infiltrating organisations considered a danger to society because of their political beliefs. Nick built himself a fake past and now with his wife unsuspecting and his conscience killing him – his secret identity may compromise the new Director of Public Prosecutions.
Dennis Haysbert will play Rudy Jones – a man who has been on Death Row for 20 years, falsely imprisoned for murder. Maya can only watch as her dearest friend and client refuses to go quietly, urging her to fight the deep-grained injustices that have tainted two decades of his life. The actor is best known for his role as President David Palmer on the earlier seasons of 24. More recent credits include the short-lived comedic procedural Backstrom, which is currently airing on FOX UK on Wednesday nights; and he was also just cast in the Syfy pilot Incorporated.
He joins a cast that is being led by Sophie Okonedo & Adrian Lester and also includes Tamara Lawrance, Daniel Ezra, Shannon Hayes, Vincent Regan, Angel Coulby, Derek Ridell, Mark Bonnar, Leanne Best, Jude Akuwudike, Thomas Dominique, Glyn Grimstead, Phil Deguara, Sam Stockman, Thomas Aldridge, Kerry Shale, Neil D’Souza, Todd Kramer, Robert Whitelock, Terence Beesley, Fraser Ayres, Clarence Smith, Brett Allen, Nathan Nolan and Enzo Squillino Jr.
Undercover was created by Silk scribe Peter Moffat and is being produced in-house by BBC Drama Production England in association with BBC America. Richard Stokes is the series producer, while James Hawes and Jim O’Hanlon are directing. Hilary Salmon, Head of BBC Drama Production England, is the executive producer. Production on Undercover is now underway in Louisiana, with BBC One and BBC America eyeing early 2016 premieres in the UK and the US, respectively.
